Yoga is for every body.
As a yoga practitioner and yoga teacher, I recognize that yoga can seem intimidating and inaccessible based on the images we typically see of yoga online and some of the yoga classes offered.
But one of the beautiful things about yoga is that accommodations can easily be made to create a yoga practice that works for everyone.
When I started my own online yoga studio, my intention was to create a space where everyone felt like the practice was for them. I also wanted the classes to empower students to practice more self-compassion and self-acceptance, especially around their bodies.
This was important to me because meditation and yoga were important stepping stones in my own healing from negative body image and disordered eating.
While I’ve stepped away from my online yoga studio for now, I still believe that body acceptance and yoga are the perfect compliment to one another.
Luckily, there are more and more yoga teachers who are teaching body affirming yoga practices.
This is by no means an exhaustive list of resources, but it’s a good place to start.
