I hope you had a wonderful holiday, and that you got to spend Christmas with the people that you love!
My Christmas, while different than years past, was still memorable and fun.
Today I’m sharing a quick recap of my holiday, but the rest of the week will be all about getting ready for the new year! I’ll be sharing lots of tips on setting goals, having a successful year and more!
On Christmas Eve, we woke up to snow!
I started the day with warm water wtih lemon essential oil.
Then I had a delicious omelet with kale, onion and goat cheese.
I did a Rachel Brathen (Yoga Girl) yoga video.
Ate gingerbread cookies with my coffee.
Went out in the snow to pick up a few ingredients. By the way, I’m obsessed with my new Columbia vest!
Then the BF and I went to my parent’s house for lunch. I brought the salads – a store bought salad and a homemade salad with kale, Brussels sprouts, apple, dried cranberries, honey roasted pecans, lemon honey dressing and gorgonzola.
My mom made her first chicken pot pie, and it was delicious!
I also made Cranberry Bliss Bars for dessert. They were so so delicious!
My mom organized the lunch because the BF had to go to work in the afternoon. So we said our goodbyes when he had to leave.
I spent the afternoon watching Elf and Christmas Vacation, and drinking a glass of wine.
Then my parent’s picked me up and we went to my sister-in-law’s parent’s house. They had tons of delicious cheeses, a vegetable tray, spinach dip and soups. We ate, everyone exchanged gifts and we sat around talking.
I was really grateful that they invited me to celebrate the holiday with them. I was actually feeling pretty sad that I couldn’t spend the whole day with the BF, and that we couldn’t do our normal holiday traditions together this year. But I felt very welcomed.
When I got home, I watched a Christmas movie until the BF got home.
I woke up at 6:30 a.m. to make Maple Oat Nut Scones for our Christmas brunch. However, I did start my day by oil pulling and drinking warm water with lemon essential oil. I wanted to start the day feeling good! There was also a beautiful sunrise on Christmas day!
After the scones were made, the BF and I exchanged gifts. Our dog, Coda, received a little hedgehog wearing a scarf!
I packed up all the gifts for my family, and the BF and I made our way down the street to my parent’s house.
My mom loves Christmas, and she loves buying gifts for the BF and I, my brother, sister-in-law and niece. She’s a great gift-giver and very generous during the holidays.
We had a baked egg casserole, scones and mimosas for brunch.
Then we spent the morning opening gifts. I received so many wonderful gifts that will help me continue my healthy living journey! A FitBit Charge HR, a Himalayan salt lamp, a Fabletics gift card, a spiralizer attachment for my KitchenAid mixer and more. The BF got a Cuisinart breadmaker, so we’re going to experiment with making our own bread!!
My niece asked for a laminator! She loves organization!
The BF had to work, so we headed home so that he could get ready. (we were still in our pajamas). I also got ready for my next Christmas outing (while I sipped a pomegranate champagne cocktail).
My sister-in-law’s aunt invited me to their Christmas dinner, so I went there after the BF left for work. They served prime rib, so I ended up eating lots of side dishes – a salad, raw vegetables with dill dip, mashed potatoes topped with sauteed onions and mushrooms and my mom’s Mexican stuffing. everything was delicious. I also indulged in a mudslide. I don’t usually drink creamy, sweet alcoholic drinks, but it was a fun treat.
After a few hours, I headed home. I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening watching cheesy Christmas movies. I immediately put on some of my Christmas gifts – Calvin Klein joggers from my parents and a Cuddle Duds top from my brother and his fam. I was still feeling bummed that the BF was working. I think this is the first Christmas that I ever spent time alone. It felt very weird.
But I reminded myself how lucky I was to have such an amazing family and to have the BF. I got to spend time with people I love, I was welcomed in to other people’s homes, I ate delicious food and received an abundance of gifts. There was much to be grateful for this Christmas.
What is one thing you are grateful for this holiday season?
