Hello! It’s been awhile since I shared a Coffee Chat post. It’s a chance for me to catch up with you and share what’s been going on around here.
I normally post a coffee selfie, but it’s been a few months since I took one! What?!? I’ve been smoothie obsessed lately, and I only had recent selfies with smoothies.
While it would be more fun to have coffee (or a smoothie) and catch up in person, this post will have to do.
Please let me know what you’ve been up to in the comments below!
My birthday is Sunday!
I usually take the day off from work and spend the day doing things that make me feel wonderful…getting a massage, eating sushi, watching a movie, shopping. I also usually throw myself a themed birthday party. Here’s a recap from last year’s birthday.
Last year was Sweet 16 x 2 since I turned 32. Everything was pink, I wore a pink tulle dress and my mom made me a pink champagne cake. Here’s a recap of the party. It’s definitely not the Sweet 16 I would have had when I was 16, but it’s the Sweet 16 I wanted as a 32 year old. I may not be able to make a party work this year because of schedules, which makes me really sad.
I also celebrate the birthday month. I try to do special things throughout the month that make me feel special. I’ll let you know what I end up doing to celebrate.
I’ll be running a half-marathon on my birthday this year, so I took Monday off to celebrate (and recover). So far my birthday agenda includes doughnuts, sweat pants, yoga, pizza and relaxing.
I’m gifting myself with a few things as well. I’ll share later!
I totally believe that you must make your birthday what you want it to be. When you rely on others to create a perfectly special day, you’ll be left with an expectation hangover. There’s no shame in celebrating yourself, buying yourself the gift you truly want, treating yourself to the meal you want or buying yourself flowers. It’s YOUR day!
Sugar Free April is coming to an end!
The month flew by! Giving up sugar for 30 days was totally no big deal, right?
I found it pretty easy to stay away from sweet treats like cookies, ice cream and other desserts. But total realness: I did have added sugar in the form of bread and pizza a few times and I ate ketchup twice without thinking about it. This is a journey!
But even with a few missteps, I still feel amazing! My skin looks pretty freakin flawless, my stomach is flatter and I haven’t had any major cravings. I was craving sweets after dinner almost every night before this challenge. Now, I don’t even think about having a sweet treat most evenings.
Throughout the month, I shared TONS of amazing information about reducing sugar cravings. If you missed anything, here are the highlights:
I also shared lots of recipes here on the blog and on Facebook.
I encourage you to pay close attention to how your body feels when you reintroduce sugar. I generally experience stomach aches, bloating, skin issues and slumps in energy when I eat refined sugar. Be mindful of how what you’re eating makes you feel physically, emotionally and mentally.
The Next Challenge….
We’ll be doing another challenge together in July. Are you ready for it?!?!? We’re going Meat Free in July!! Yep. I’ll share TONS of information about how eating less meat can change your health and change the world. I’m soooooo excited for this challenge!
I had my first energy work session, and it was amazing.
Energy work allows you to restore balance in your energy system and let go of parts of yourself that are no longer serving you.
I went to Teresa Bushnell, an energy worker, yoga instructor, certified aromatherapist and massage therapist. She used the raindrop technique, which combines aromatherapy with massage and the application of oils along the spine.
The reason I went was because of my headaches, TMJ, neck pain, stress and feelings of overwhelm…which are all related.
Teresa focuses on the chakras, which are the energy centers of the body. There are seven main chakras that align the spine. Each of the chakras are connected to nerves and organs as well as psychological, emotional and spiritual states of being. We want to keep all of our chakras open and aligned. But when there is a blockage, energy can’t flow.
We talked a lot about the throat chakra, which is our source of verbal expression and the ability to speak our highest truth. Physically, it’s connected to the neck, which could explain my neck pain.
The session was really interesting, enlightening and provided me with some clarity. I’m on a journey to find balance, and my session with Teresa was incredibly helpful!
What’s new and good with you right now?
