Essential Oils for Self-Care During the Holidays

If the holiday season has you feeling stressed, try using some of these essential oils for self-care. These simple self-care practices will help you create a more peaceful and joyful holiday.

How are you feeling going into the holidays?

This time of year is supposed to be full of joy, but it can be a season that brings up some stress, worry, anxiety or even sadness.

Maybe you’re stressed about getting your home ready for guests or finding last minute gifts, or worried about how certain family members will get along this year, or anxious about finances or sad that someone you care about isn’t here with you this year. 

This time of year is truly my favorite. I love holiday music, all the cheesy holiday movies on Hallmark and Lifetime, driving around looking at Christmas lights, shopping for the perfect gifts for my loved ones, decorating the house. I love it all. 

But, to be honest, this year hasn’t felt as joyful as years past. After Thanksgiving I started working a lot more at the Wellness Center where I teach Pilates reformer, yoga and group exercise classes. I took on a freelance writing project. I did over 20 health coaching sessions for the holidays. And I was putting in more hours each week working on my Young Living business. All that extra work, and I was still feeling like money was tight.

Going into the holidays working more and worried about finances felt really stressful, and it made it hard for me to really enjoy this time of year. 

So I knew I needed to take some time for me. Self-care is something I talk about all the time with my health coaching clients, in yoga classes and here on this blog because it’s something I often struggle with. When I notice myself feeling overwhelmed and stressed, it’s usually because I’ve let go of some important self-care practices or I haven’t allowed myself to have time for me. 

I love using essential oils in my self-care practices because they make even the simplest things feel really luxurious. High quality essential oils also have amazing therapeutic benefits that can impact body systems and emotions.

So when I found myself feeling stressed this holiday season, I used my essential oils to boost my mood, let go of stress, relax my body, get grounded and feel more confident.

If you’re not feeling super joyful and merry because you’re stressed, take some time for self-care. Here are a few simple ideas:

  • Diffuse Frankincense Essential Oil and take some time for meditation and journaling. Write down how you want to feel this holiday season. Then write down three things you can do to cultivate that feeling.
  • Diffuse Stress Away Essential Oil Blend or Peace & Calming Essential Oil Blend while you’re completing holiday tasks that are causing you stress.

Essential oils are the most powerful part of a plant distilled from shrubs, flowers, bushes, roots, trees, fruit, herbs and more. They can provide support for our physical health as well as our emotional and spiritual health. Essential oils have been used to support the body systems for thousands of years.
