What is more summery than a frozen treat?
Even though school is starting, we still have some time before the weather begins to cool. Which is why we need to savor all things summer for the next few weeks!
My niece, Brynn, and I made this delicious ice cream together. She requested strawberry ice cream, and I created a version without sugar that is still sweet and delicious.
As you can see, this girl loves her strawberries.
I use heavy cream and whole milk when I make homemade ice cream because I think it tastes delicious. The ice cream turns out so rich and creamy. So this is definitely not a low-fat recipe. But I do think homemade ice cream is healthier than the store-bought ice creams that have a bunch of added artificial ingredients. Most store-bought ice cream has high fructose corn syrup, carrageenan and artificial flavors and colors. There’s also a good chance store-bought ice cream is made from milk with growth hormones.
But you can make homemade ice cream with just a few ingredients! I just make sure to buy heavy cream and whole milk without hormones. The package will say – rBGH free or no artificial growth hormones – or something like that. Hormone-free milk isn’t hard to find. I picked some up at Target. I think I got Hiland and it wasn’t expensive.
There’s also no sugar in this ice cream! I used honey, a natural sweetener, to create this sweet treat.
Brynn loved it, and I got my summer frozen treat fix!
