Chlorophyll has tons of healthy benefits such as reducing inflammation, detoxifying the body, and improving the health of hair, skin, and nails. It may be a supplement you want to add to your daily routine!
If you follow along with my Instagram stories, then you’ve seen the green water that I drink every single day. I’ve been adding liquid chlorophyll to a large glass of water every day since April this year, and I’m obsessed.
Before I share my chlorophyll story, I want to share my love of supplements. While I believe in the healing power of a nourishing diet, I’ve experienced positive changes in my health because of the supplements I take. Most of the supplements in my daily routine were suggested to me by my functional medicine doctor after a blood test. But I use other supplements that have overall health benefits, like chlorophyll. The key to using supplements is using them consistently. They’re not magic pills that will start changing your life overnight. You’ll see the benefits of supplements over time.
I bought chlorophyll before a trip to Colorado to help with adjusting to the altitude. I tend to get a little headachey when I’m in the mountains…especially when I enjoy some craft beer or rosé. Chlorophyll is said to help the body’s cells capture more oxygen, so it may help prevent or diminish symptoms from altitude sickness.
I drank my green chlorophyll water every day that I was in Colorado, and I definitely felt like it helped reduce my altitude symptoms.
Then one of my Pilates clients told me that chlorophyll could help with hair, skin, and nails, so I started drinking it every day. After a couple of months, I noticed a significant change in the health of my hair, skin and nails. My nails were growing like crazy and not breaking off like they normally do. My skin looked healthier and more glowy and my hair stopped breaking off.
So what makes chlorophyll so amazing? Chlorophyll is the green pigment in plants that aids in the absorption of light from the sun. It’s loaded with antioxidants and vitamins A, C, E, and K, beta-carotene, and minerals such as magnesium, iron, potassium, calcium, and essential fatty acids.
When taken as a supplement, chlorophyll may:
- help reduce inflammation
- boost immunity
- replenish red blood cells
- help stop the absorption of harmful toxins
- detoxify the body
- promote healthy digestion
- strengthen bones
- help the body maintain healthy tissues
- stimulate anti-aging enzymes
- improve adrenal function
I use an unflavored liquid form of chlorophyll and add a few drops to a large glass of filtered water. I use a stainless steel straw to drink my green water.
Just be careful because chlorophyll is super concentrated and will stain anything you get it on. Trust me, I know! I accidentally dropped my bottle of chlorophyll (twice) and stained our counter…and floor.
Have you ever tried chlorophyll? What did you think?
