Bad body days happen. Rather than jumping into the next diet or weight loss program, cultivate more compassion for your body by using this meditation.
I know how hard it can be to create a peaceful relationship with your body.
Bad body days seem to pop up out of nowhere, and can send us into a spiral of self-judgment. They can leave us feeling like we need to make a plan to change our bodies.
But rather than starting yet another diet (that won’t work), practice self-compassion. If you need a reminder about why dieting isn’t the answer, read this blog post.
One way you can practice self-compassion is by noticing the negative thoughts that are coming up and then reminding yourself that you’re worthy just as you are. I know negative self-talk can be hard to manage, so read here for more tips on those negative thoughts.
One of my favorite ways to shift my mindset about my body is to use positive affirmations or mantras. I wrote this meditation containing positive body mantras for a yoga class, and I thought it would be helpful for you on bad body days or just as part of your practice for cultivating more compassion for yourself.
Before you begin this meditation, find a quiet space and make it comfortable. You can put a pillow or blanket on the floor or sit on a cozy chair or couch.
Try diffusing bergamot essential oil. It helps to promote a sense of self-worth and it’s known to relieve feelings of despair, self-judgment, and low self-esteem.
You could also try diffusing frankincense as it may help you to connect more to your body and your intuition when used during prayer or meditation.
Remember, meditation doesn’t have to be perfect. If your mind starts to wander, return to noticing your breath and come back to the mantras.
Meditation for Honoring Your Body
Find a comfortable seat. Sit up tall. Roll your shoulders back and down. Keep your chin parallel to the floor. Relax your body.
Close your eyes. Begin to notice your breath. Are your inhales and exhales shallow and short or deep and long? Just notice, without judgement. Take a few breaths just like this.
Begin to deepen your inhales and exhales. As you inhale, allow your ribs and belly to expand. When you exhale, allow your navel to draw back toward your spine. Take a few deep breaths just like this.
Allow your deep, long slow breaths to bring energy to your body. As this energy flows through your body, imagine that there is a beam of light flowing through your body. As you sit up tall, full of confidence, your body is shining bright.
Continue your deep breaths, and with every exhale repeat the mantras.
I am strong.
I am grateful for my body.
I think kind thoughts about my body.
I am compassionate toward myself and my body.
My body is beautiful.
Repeat these mantras as many times as you’d like.
Allow these thoughts to take root. Allow these positive thoughts, your glowing energy, and your confident posture to carry you through your day. You are beautiful inside and out.Take three more deep breaths.
When you feel ready, slowly open your eyes.
