I have this habit of impulse buying produce that I 1) have never tried before or 2) have never heard of before or 3) have no idea how to prepare.
When I see something new in the produce section, I get excited and things go in my cart.
My latest produce impulse purchase was a passion fruit!
Passion fruit is native to Brazil, Paraguay and northern Argentina, but it is grown in South America, Central America, the Caribbean, Africa, Southern Asia, Australia and the United States. (Source)
Passion fruit is a round dark purple fruit with a juicy interior filled with seeds. They are often used for juices, but you can also use passion fruit in desserts or fruit salads. (You only use the juicy/seed-filled inside!) The inside is very sweet, but has a bit of tartness also. Very delicious!

When I Googled “Passion Fruit Recipes,” I found mostly cheesecake, mousse and yogurt. Check out these Grilled Bananas with Passion Fruit and Yogurt. Mmmmm.
But I only bought one passion fruit, so my options were limited.
I opened up my fridge and started brainstorming. I decided to make one of my fave snacks – a smoothie!
This smoothie is super sweet and delicious because of the fruit combination. It also tastes fresh and summery since I added coconut water! It would make a great post-workout snack or leave out the protein powder and drink this as dessert! I only used half a scoop of protein powder because I don’t like my smoothies to be overwhelmed by the flavor of the powder. I like the fruit flavors to come through a bit more.
Just a little tip – Blend the heck out of this smoothie! I used two fruits that are seedy, and you don’t want a smoothie filled with little seeds.
