I intended to do a lot more blogging while I was in Georgia over the last week and a half, but I started having trouble uploading photos and I was busier than expected.
But I still want to share some of my adventures! I’ll post a few recaps of my food and fitness adventures this week.
First up – running in Savannah…
The day after the FitBloggin sessions ended, there was one last organized event – a run sponsored by Run Disney! There was a 1-mile run, a 5K and a 10K.
But before we took off, we got to say hello to Olympic runner Jeff Galloway! No big deal.
I chose to do the 5K, but I was nervous that I would be slow, be last and get lost. My running pace is generally between 10:00 and 10:30 if I’m feeling decent, but with the heat and humidity of the south I wasn’t confident I could even do that. I was surprised when I stayed with the front of the pack for most of the run even though I was stopping to take photos!
I carried my handheld water bottle to stay hydrated and my phone to take photos.
We ran though a bunch of beautiful parks!
The air in the south is so stagnant. It’s just a blanket of humidity that doesn’t go anywhere. Running is interesting. I don’t think I have ever sweat so much in my life. My arms were sweating, my calves were sweating, it was weird.
At the 2-mile mark, we had a choice to head back to the hotel for a shorter run or keep going and finish the 5K. Most people headed back to the hotel. I decided to keep going because I felt good and I was with the front of the group. I was pretty proud of myself for sticking with it!
I was pretty obsessed with the trees in Savannah. They are absolutely beautiful!
Running really is such a great way to see a city. I was glad I got to explore some of the beautiful parks in Savannah.
