I’ve always been an advocate of creating your own happiness and pleasure on days like Valentine’s Day (and every day, really).
Maybe Valentine’s Day has never been a big deal for you, but if you’re like me then you’ve put a lot of pressure on Valentine’s Day being this perfectly romantic day. We often create high expectations for our significant other, keep our fingers crossed that our crush will finally notice us or hope that we’ll randomly bump into the love of our life. I’ve totally been there.
Whether we’re single or in a relationship, we rely on someone else to make the day special.
When we have expectations for what we feel like someone else should do, we’ll more than likely end up feeling disappointed. Before Valentine’s Day, let go of expectations for others. Then practice gratitude for whatever your partner ends up doing for you or for whatever happens on Valentine’s Day. You won’t feel disappointed and you’ll have more love and appreciation for your partner and the day.
And create the Valentine’s Day that you truly want!
I’ve been doing this for years now. As Valentine’s Day approaches, I think about how I want to feel that day. Nourished, loved, relaxed, pampered, peaceful. Then I plan a few things that will cultivate those feelings.
In the past, I’ve bought myself French macarons, I’ve picked up sushi take out for lunch, I’ve made a cake, I’ve gone shopping, and more! It doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive or take the entire day. You can do one or two things to feel the way you want to feel.
Plan ahead and give yourself the gift of self-care this Valentine’s Day. Here are some of my favorite self-care gifts.
This makeup kit is everything! All the products are non-toxic, natural and super high quality. You can choose between four different shades (Cool 2, Warm 2, Dark 1, Dark 4). Each kit contains colors and shades that work best for your skin tone. You get mineral powder foundation, blush, three eyeshadows, lip gloss, misting spray, a foundation brush and a 5ml bottle of lavender essential oil.
This is the makeup that I use and love, and it’s a great way to start removing toxic products from your beauty routine and switch to natural products.
Savvy Minerals is the makeup line designed by Young Living, so when you buy the makeup starter kit you get all the perks of being a Young Living member – 24% off retail prices, access to a private online community for support and resource, 1:1 support from me, and more!
Both of these beauty tools are used for facial massage, and can help improve the look of the skin. They can reduce dark circles and puffiness under the eyes and help improve wrinkles.
I absolutely love my Gua Sha and jade roller. I like to combine coconut oil with lavender essential oil, and massage it into my skin with either the gua sha or jade roller.
Organic wine made in the United States doesn’t have added sulfites. Sulfites may cause headaches, respiratory issues, skin breakouts and other reactions in some people.
Plus organic wine means there aren’t pesticides used on the grapes, so you know that you’re consuming a wine that is free from toxic chemicals.
This is totally on my wish list and I plan to gift this to myself someday. I love wine, but it often causes my sinuses to fill up making breathing uncomfortable and giving me headaches the following day (even after just 1-2 glasses of wine).
If your bra collection is looking sad, consider upgrading to better fitting and prettier bras. Feeling good in your body can start with having undergarments that fit well and make you feel sexy.
I ordered a ThirdLove bra, and realized I had been buying the wrong size bra for years. ThirdLove has you take a quiz and answer a bunch of questions about your boobs, so you can get a perfect fit.
Plus ThirdLove offers extended sizes and uses models of all shapes and sizes. The CEO also called out Victoria’s Secret’s CEO after he made comments about how no one wants to see plus size models.
This book is on my (long) list of books I want to read. Here’s the description from Amazon…
“Humans are a varied and divergent bunch with all manner of beliefs, morals, and bodies. Systems of oppression thrive off our inability to make peace with difference and injure the relationship we have with our own bodies.
The Body Is Not an Apology offers radical self-love as the balm to heal the wounds inflicted by these violent systems. World-renowned activist and poet Sonya Renee Taylor invites us to reconnect with the radical origins of our minds and bodies and celebrate our collective, enduring strength. As we awaken to our own indoctrinated body shame, we feel inspired to awaken others and to interrupt the systems that perpetuate body shame and oppression against all bodies. When we act from this truth on a global scale, we usher in the transformative opportunity of radical self-love, which is the opportunity for a more just, equitable, and compassionate world — for us all.”
Begin your journey to…
Shift your focus from weight to health, learn how to connect to your hunger cues, discover what foods make you feel your best, shed food guilt and shame, discover why you eat emotionally, find out how to trust your body more, create a weight neutral self-care practice, create a body kindness and compassion practice, and more.
A New Outfit That Fits
Feeling good in your clothing is one way to feel better in your body. There’s nothing worse than staring into a closet full of clothes that no longer fit or trying to squeeze into clothes that are too small.
Invest in a new outfit that makes you feel amazing in your body, as it is now.
I love the High Waisted Powerhold Leggings from Fabletics. They’re super comfortable and you can get them in fun solids or patterns.
I also love ordering a Stitch Fix box and asking my stylist for specific things missing from my closet.
Both companies have extended sizes.
Yoga Class Punch Card / In-Person or Virtual Membership to a Fitness Studio
Moving your body in ways that feel good can help you to feel more energized, feel stronger and just feel good in your body.
If there’s a local yoga or boutique fitness studio that you’ve wanted to try, go try a class then gift yourself with a punch card or membership.
If in person classes aren’t your thing, try a virtual membership. You could try YogaGlo, Barre3, One0Eight Yoga, Curvy Yoga, Gaia, Alo Moves, Pure Barre, Pilates Anytime, and more!
A Massage or Facial
There’s really nothing better than getting a professional massage or facial.
A House Plant
A bouquet of flowers is nice, but gift yourself with a gorgeous succulent or air purifying house plant and you can enjoy it for so much longer than just a few days.
Your Favorite Dessert
Go to a bakery and buy yourself something you absolutely love. Get cozy, pour yourself a glass of wine or make a cup of tea, create a relaxing environment and enjoy every single bite.
Have a Happy Valentine’s Day!
