The Best Way to Curb Your Sugar Cravings

Do you constantly crave sugar and refined carbs?

It could be because you’re blood sugar levels are out of balance.

Balanced blood sugar plays a huge role in your energy, weight and overall health. When your blood sugar levels are imbalanced, you most likely don’t have consistent energy. This makes it harder to make healthy choices like eating well and moving your body.

The constant ups and downs in energy can also cause cravings for foods that are going to give you quick energy…ie. sugar and carbs.

So what do you do to balance your blood sugar?

I have a magic formula for keeping your blood sugar levels balanced, and reducing your sugar cravings! It’s simple…

Healthy Fat + Protein + Fiber

Fats slow the absorption of glucose into the blood stream, which makes you feel more satisfied. Protein pulls sugar into cells so that your body can use it for energy. Healthy carbohydrates provide glucose, which your body uses as fuel.

Fat, protein and fiber work together to slow your digestion, make you feel more satisfied and give you energy. This means you won’t be having dips in energy and craving quick and unhealthy sources of fuel.

Healthy Fat – Good sources of healthy fats are avocado, olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, nuts, seeds, nut butter, chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds and salmon.

Protein – Good sources of protein are lean animal meats like cage-free, antibiotic-free turkey and chicken, grass-fed beef, cage-free, antibiotic-free eggs, organic tofu and edamame, and vegan protein powder.

Fiber – The best sources of fiber are fruits and vegetables, and whole grains like brown rice, oatmeal, quinoa, farro, millet, amaranth and teff, and lentils and beans.

When you create meals using this formula, you will not only curb sugar cravings, but you’ll feel more satisfied and have more energy!

Not sure how to create a meal using the magic formula? Here are some ideas…

Green Smoothie

1 cup unsweetened almond milk

1 scoop vegan vanilla protein {this is the best vegan protein powder –> bit.ly/sara-protein}

1/4 – 1/2 avocado

1 cup spinach

1/2 frozen banana

2-3 ice cubes

Place all ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth.

Tofu Buddha Bowl

Drain organic tofu. Press tofu on a towel to release the liquid. Cut into 1-inch pieces, and press to release more liquid. Pour 1/2 tbsp. olive oil or coconut oil in a pan over medium heat, and add tofu. Cook until golden brown on each side.

Saute your favorite vegetables such as onion, Brussels sprouts, red pepper, green pepper, kale and mushrooms in olive oil or coconut oil.

Cook brown rice according to package directions.

Top with low sodium soy sauce, tamari or peanut sauce.
