Top Five Winter Running Essentials

*I received the opportunity to review ProCompression Marathon Socks through my ambassadorship with FitApproach. I received a pair of socks from ProCompression to review. All opinions are my own.

I admit, running during the winter takes a little extra motivation. Here in the middle of Nebraska it gets cold…and windy.

But getting out to run during those extra cold days takes two things – some positive self-talk and proper winter running gear.

I’m sharing five items you absolutely can’t live without if you’re going out for a winter run. This list is perfect if you’re still looking for holiday gifts for runners!

Five Winter Running Essentials

1. ProCompression Marathon Socks

These socks are a must for winter runs! They are comfortable, give you a little extra warmth AND provide maximum compression for a speedy recovery. Compression apparel offer benefits like improved blood flow, which helps reduce swelling and inflammation. ProCompression socks have graduation compression, a stabilization zone through the sides of the mid foot, an open toe box so your toes aren’t compressed, arch support and they’re made with moisture wicking material.

In addition to wearing compression apparel during runs, I love wearing my ProCompression socks after tough workouts to help with muscle recovery. I’ve even worn them under my jeans to run errands! I have the ProCompression Marathon Socks in Black.

ProCompression also offers a fun Sock of the Month every month. I LOVE the December Snowflake sock! It would be perfect for a jingle bell road race!

Get 40% off your ProCompression order by using code PINK2. Offer is good until Dec. 15.

(I also have the ProCompression Leggings (which I bought myself), and I’m in love with them! They are perfect for all types of workouts).

2. C9 by Champion Brim Hat from Target

I bought this hat for sunny winter runs. It’s absolutely perfect – it keeps the sun out of my eyes and off my face, while keeping my head and ears warm. There’s also a little hole in the back for your pony tail!

3. Under Armour Fly By Turtleneck

I have this shirt in two colors! It’s perfect for super cold days when the air burns your lungs or just makes your face sting. The turtleneck can be pulled up over your face to cover your nose and mouth. The Under Armour website has very limited colors and sizes (check here), but click here for more choices on Amazon.

4. Manzella Power Stretch Touch Tip Gloves

Gloves are absolutely essential for cold weather runs. There’s nothing worse than have freezing hands! I love these Manzella running gloves because they’re slim and not too bulky, and they keep my hands warm. They also have a TouchTip on the thumb and index finger so that you can use your touch screen on your phone or running watch during runs!

5. Sunscreen

Even though it’s cold and may be a bit cloudy during your winter runs, sunscreen is still a must! UV rays can penetrate through clouds. The good thing about wearing sunscreen during winter runs is you don’t have to use nearly as much because your face is likely the only skin that will be exposed to the elements. Apply sunscreen 15-30 minutes before you head outside, and don’t forget to put on some lip balm with SPF. I like to use a natural sunscreen that is paraben-free. Try Coola Classic Sport Unscented SPF 50 Sunscreen.
