One of the many fun and intimate moments during my wedding day was the pre-wedding mimosa bar while I was getting my hair and makeup done. See photos from the mimosa bar, plus get details on my wedding hair and makeup.
Our wedding week in Estes Park, Colorado was absolutely magical! We couldn’t have asked for a better wedding experience.
We planned our wedding with a lot of intention. We envisioned having lots of intimate moments with our guests throughout the week and on the day of our wedding.
I didn’t have any bridesmaids, and I didn’t want to be by myself for the two and a half hours I would be getting my hair and make up done. When I told my cousin, Kristi, about this, she offered to host a small gathering the morning of the wedding while I was getting ready.
She and her sister, Jen, and their mom, Adel, put together a super cute mimosa bar and we invited all the ladies who were invited to our wedding to stop by. It was so fun to have everyone come and go, enjoy mimosas and food, put on eye masks, and talk about the day ahead.
All the photos I’m sharing in this post were taken by our wedding photographer, Deana Johnson.
There was champagne, juices and fruit so everyone could make their own mimosas. I really love a mimosa bar!
All the details were so cute and thoughtful including these ‘Cheers’ napkins.
My cousin knows me so well! I absolutely love succulents and we had succulents as one of the plants in our flower arrangements for our wedding. So it was perfect to have a succulent-themed mimosa party.
My cousins, Kristi and Jen, and my aunt, Adel, organized such a great little party for me and my wedding guests.
Fruit, nuts, cookies, granola and bread were the perfect mid-morning snack for everyone.
I had to get my hair done in the bathroom during the party because of the mirror, so everyone came in to say hello and bring me food (and put on eye masks).
I think I only drank a few sips of my mimosa. I was a little nervous!
In my essential oil diffuser, I had an oil blend called Abundance. It’s an oil blend that contains orange and ginger, which were used in ancient cultures to attract prosperity, and magnify joy and peace. I thought it was the perfect blend to help everyone (and me!) feel peaceful and happy before the wedding.
My hair stylist and make up artist was Amy Merritt from Boulder, CO. She traveled to Estes Park to do my hair and makeup, and do my niece and sister-in-law’s hair. She was absolutely amazing! She has a really fun personality and created such beautiful looks for the wedding.
It was also really convenient to have her come to my condo to do my hair and makeup. I really didn’t want to go to a salon, so I was happy that I found someone who would do hair and makeup on site.
I wanted loose (non-wedding) curls and one side of my hair pulled back. I envisioned it looking relaxed, but still a little glam, and Amy totally got it.
I ended up wearing hair extensions because my hair is pretty thin and fine, and I wanted more fullness. When my natural hair is curled it’s shoulder length, and I wanted my hair to be a little longer while curled as well. I bought extensions at the local Sally Beauty store, and I had my hair stylist put them in and trim them the week before our wedding.
After my hair was done, I had a moment of doubt about the length and fullness of the extensions. I just wasn’t used to seeing myself with such long and full hair! I almost went on a crazy search for a pair of scissors to have Amy trim the extensions. But I got some reassurance from my friends and our photographer, I took a few deep breaths, and I trusted that my hair would look amazing with my dress and in photos.
For my makeup, I wanted my skin to look natural and I wanted a dramatic cat eye with long lashes. I usually wear a cat eye so I thought a more dramatic version for the wedding would still look like me, but more glam.
I absolutely LOVED my makeup. My skin has never looked better. I wish I could create this look every day!
Those final moments before I put my wedding dress on were so special. I’m so happy with the way my hair and makeup turned out. It looked absolutely stunning with my dress and in all of our photographs (which I’ll share soon!).
Also, I now want to have long hair all the time! I’m so glad I purchased my own extensions for the wedding because I can re-use them!
I’ll share more details about our wedding and my dress soon!
