We often use the weekends as an excuse to indulge in our favorite foods, eat dessert more often or enjoy a few extra cocktails. We made it to the weekend, it’s time to celebrate!
But overeating or eating unhealthy foods and skipping workouts every weekend can hold you back from reaching your weight loss goals, cause you to gain weight or wreck havoc on your health. Weekends make up a third of the month, almost half if you count Fridays!
I’m guilty of it too. One of my favorite things to do on Friday when I get home from work is open a bottle of wine. And because I have a two glass maximum, I end up drinking wine Saturday night and sometimes Sunday night as well. The BF and I also enjoy going out to eat on weekends, and sometimes end up eating out multiple times over the weekend.
Which is why I’m making more of an effort to make healthier choices on the weekends and indulge more consciously.
Here’s a look at my weekend eats and workouts…
Friday, April 7
After work, I made a quick trip to Target for nail polish remover so I could give myself a manicure. I ended up buying this Suja Drinking Vinegar, which was surprisingly good.
I went to the gym and walked on the treadmill at an incline for 20 minutes, used the stair mill for 20 minutes, then got back on the treadmill for another 20 minutes.
I intended to have a glass of wine after my workout, but I felt so good afterward, I skipped it!
Saturday, April 8
Breakfast was roasted sweet potato with half a banana, hemp seeds, almond butter, unsweetened coconut and pure maple syrup.
I went to yoga at the CHI Wellness Center. My friend, Sarah, taught, and it was a great class. I took a selfie while I was waiting for class to begin because I really liked my yoga bra.
I’ve been drinking all the La Croix lately.
This dairy-free strawberry milk is so perfect for spring. I sipped on this while I cleaned the kitchen and the BF did yard work.
For lunch, I had a salad (mix from a bag) with pepitas and dairy-free Hilary’s Chia Ranch dressing.
I spent forever trimming back our indoor basil plant and picking basil leaves. I ended up making dairy-free pesto because I had a ton of basil.
Then I took a few B-School courses while I sipped kombucha. We had our windows open all day, and it felt amazing. It was such a beautiful day out.
The BF and I went out for groceries so we could make dinner at home, and we made a quick stop at Kaw Valley Greenhouse.
They had so many succulents! It was so hard not to buy them all.
The BF grilled chicken thighs and veggies with corn on the cob and quinoa, so I relaxed on the recliner with a beer. The BF bought me this beer because it looks like it says “spa” on it. He knows what I like. It’s really a seasonal pale ale.
Dinner felt very summery, which was perfect because it was a nice warm day.
Sunday, April 9
For breakfast, I made scrambled eggs with veggies over avocado toast.
I made this delicious sparkling cherry lime mocktail after breakfast. Here’s the recipe…
Fill a large mason jar halfway with filtered water. Squeeze the juice of half of a lime into water.
Add a scoop of cherry minerals and antioxidant mix (bit.ly/sara-minerals). Put lid on jar and shake until combined.
Pour in one can of sparkling water (like La Croix). Add ice and enjoy! *You could add champagne instead of sparkling water for a spring brunch cocktail.
Lunch was salad greens topped with quinoa, a black bean burger, guacamole and salsa verde.
I meal planned and meal prepped in the afternoon. I made pickled red cabbage, lemon dijon turmeric dressing, quinoa, chickpeas, almond coconut overnight oats, salted date overnight oats and opened a bag of salad mix.
I made salad in a jar for the first time ever!
The BF and I went to Yanney Heritage Park for a run/walk on the hike and bike trail. It was a gorgeous day!
It’s the first time we’ve been running together in over a year, and it’s the first time I ran since last May. It felt surprisingly good.
The BF made chicken pad Thai for dinner, which is one of his specialties. It didn’t disappoint. I also made a strawberry rhubarb pie. I cleaned out our freezer and found a pie crust from Thanksgiving, frozen strawberries and frozen rhubarb. It was delicious (and a perfect little end of weekend indulgence).
